New York welcomes a Scottish native

The Empire State Building - you have to stand quite far back to get the upper floors in. From the ground floor you can only see half the building.

Three classic New York buildings with the Grand Central Station at the bottom, the former Pan Am building (back when Pan Am was an airline) and the Chrysler Building to the right.

Classic New York taxi cabs outside Grand Central Station.

Interior of the station building, one of the most impressive stations in the world. The majority of the crowd here are visitors not passengers as you can tell by the number of photos being taken.

The dark building in the foreground is the Library Hotel where I am staying. All the rooms have book themes with each bedroom having its own book collection.

This room in the hotel hosts a complimentary wine and cheese reception each evening. Coffee, tea, cakes and cookies are also available for the calorie-conscious.

All of these glass buildings in New York have impressive reflections.

On the way to Times Square I came across this free concert in the lively Bryant Square.

These break dancers warming up near Times Square.

I thought I had captured a celebrity in Times Square, turned out passers-by were taking the opportunity to have their photo taken with the stretch limo. Notice that even McDonalds is adorned with flashing lights in Times Square.

Even Times Square subway station has to have flashing lights.

Madame Tussauds has a sinister hand at its entrance.

Captured this confrontation between New York's finest and a stall holder at Times Square.

My daughter Anja talked me into going into this cosmetics shop to buy some makeup for her. Luckily this store is used to clueless men walking around and in the end after getting an assistant to speak to Anja on the phone she finally got what she wanted.

At night the pedestrian bridge into Grand Central station is beautifully lit up.

The Chrysler Building looks good day or night.
