Go East, Young Man

Set off this morning by Amtrak for New York. Great train with seating/sleeping compartment and a restaurant car and observation car and because I'm in the last car I get great views from the rear of the train.

My compartment. Double seats which convert to a bed.

How would you like these views from your bedroom window?

Views from the rear of the train

When I was driving I sometimes would come across rail crossings like this one. No barriers, no warning lights just a sign saying 'Yield' (Give Way)

These are such a feature of US highways with advertising hoardings offering services from legal "Being involved in a motorcycle accident? Call ..." to a picture of a doctor with "Shoulder problems? phone Salt Lake City's top specialist on ...".

It is so amazing how long sections run dead straight before the view is broken up by a curve. I experienced the same view on many roads made more obvious if it was a two-lane (single carriageway) undivided road.

Coca-Cola truck on a lonely highway.

You can see the Moon in the top centre of the photo.

I would have thought that watching the same landscape for so long would become boring but I never found it so. There was something so relaxing sitting in the observation car watching the landscape change slowly.
